At a Japanese tavern izakaya, a man says: “A Japanese dinner is not complete without Japanese sake” and grabs a bottle of sake.
His wife stops him: “Japanese sake is not complete without a flask”. The man agrees and asks for a flask.
The waitress kindly but firmly corrects them. “Dear guests, what you said is true. But as no good dinner is best without sake, and no sake is best without its flask, a flask is not best unless you reserve it the same care you have for your dinner and your sake.”
The couple looks at her confused, so she shows them a bamboo basket filled with flasks and cups.
Unsure, they pick a flask and two cups that catch their eye. She bows slightly, and leaves.
After a while, she comes back with hot sake in the steaming flask with two cups. They don’t hesitate, pour the sake into the cups, and drink.
She was right!
How far more wonderful does the sake taste, when poured from a beautiful flask into a beautiful cup, and how more enjoyable time is when you love each of the things you do.
